Revenue Share and How Points Are Calculated

Last revised: 3 October 2026

1. About this document

This document is established under Article 9 (Revenue Share) of the Terms of Service and sets out how points are calculated and the conditions for paying out the revenue share. It forms part of the Terms of Service.

Author users can check their current points and history at any time on the points page after signing in.

2. What counts as one read

3. Points per read

Points for a single read are calculated as follows.

Points = portion read x weight for the reader type

Portion read0.0 to 1.0. Reading to the end gives 1.0.
Weight for registered members1.0
Weight for readers without an account0.5

For example, a registered member who reads to the end earns 1.00 points; one who reads half earns 0.50; a reader without an account who reads to the end earns 0.50.

The length of a work does not change the maximum. A short work and a long work both earn the same points per read when read to the end.

4. Cap on the portion read

The portion read is not taken at face value from the reading record. It is capped by the time the work was actually open.

Twenty-five characters per second is set as the upper limit of human reading speed. Reading at a normal pace will never reach this cap. The purpose of this rule is to prevent points being inflated by reporting a large amount of reading in a short time.

5. Readers without an account

6. Period

One period is a calendar month in Japan time (UTC+9). Day boundaries also follow Japan time.

7. Provisional and final

8. How points relate to money

One point is not one yen. What a point is worth changes from period to period.

The value of one point is determined as follows.

  1. The operator's share is deducted from the revenue for that period. The operator's share is currently 50%.
  2. What remains is divided by the total points generated in that period.

Value of one point = (revenue for the period - operator's share) / total points for the period

The same single point is therefore worth more in a period with higher revenue and less in one with lower revenue. As revenue grows, so does the value of a point.

The operator's share may be revised following the procedure for changing this document. Advance notice will be given, and no revision is applied retroactively to periods already finalised.

Points continue to be recorded separately from money, as a measure of how much a work has been read.

During the campaign period, revenue comes mainly from advertising.

9. Payment

The 1,000 yen minimum is not 1,000 points. You become eligible for payment when the cumulative value of your points, converted to money, reaches 1,000 yen. How many points that takes depends on the value of a point in each period.

In periods with little revenue, points may accumulate without the cumulative amount reaching 1,000 yen, in which case no payment can be made. The balance is not lost: it carries over to the next period and is paid once it reaches 1,000 yen.

MethodPaid as a digital gift certificate. No bank account details are held. The operator decides which certificate is used.

10. Showing and disclosing amounts

The author's points page shows points. Amounts are shown only once your payable balance reaches 1,000 yen, and not before, because the value of a point varies by period and is not fixed until the period is closed.

If you need your point totals and the basis of the calculation disclosed for a finalised period, please request it from the contact address (Terms of Service, Article 9).

11. Handling of abuse

Where points are found to have been inflated by improper means, the operator may void those points and the corresponding share. For amounts already paid, the operator may request the return of an equivalent sum.

12. Changes to this document

If this document is changed, the operator will give advance notice on the service following the procedure for changing the Terms of Service. Changes are not applied retroactively to points or shares for periods that have already been finalised.
